When the world is falling apart, perhaps the best thing to do is simply to laugh oneself to death. Participants of the ‘No Kings’ protests in the USA deliberately throw on costumes, flooding the highways as T-Rexes, Godzillas, or Lady Liberty. It is an expression of peaceful resilience that meets a full-blown crisis of democracy with humor.

For Noëlle Haeseling and Leo Meier, humor always serves as a vehicle: as a duo, they previously explored the radicalization of Attila Hildmann—from vegan celebrity chef to ‘Reichsbürger’—though through the eyes of his dog. After a five-year hiatus, Haeseling and Meier reunite for a new play for Theater Oberhausen. Together, they test the limits of resistance and dedicate themselves with relish to the grand and petty absurdities of human civilization.
