Is the future dark? No, the future is uncertain. It lies darkly before us because we do not yet know it—and therein lies our hope.

When we look back, the past also appears bleak—full of violence, patriarchal brutality, and dark chapters. Yet scattered throughout are all those people who did not fit into their times and resisted with all their might. In a visual experiment, Wolfgang Menardi, together with his team and ensemble members from the drama and urban arts departments, examines the resistance movements of the past to see what we can learn from them today. The starting point is poetry of upheaval, secret pamphlets, manifestos, and utopian ideas—texts that shake our contemporary lethargy and ask why we are so good at repeatedly coming to terms with so much.
