A music box of humanity begins to play—a collective of subordinates is singing an ode to their ruler. But then a jolt disrupts the mechanism and forms a void: The king has left the building, and the collective is left to its own devices. Little by little, the figures transform into individual bodies. An era of self-determination is ushered in—the rule of the people. From the freedom of the individual emerges the law of the jungle. One final jolt—and the figures of the music box spin into an age of utopia: an age of harmonious interaction, equality, and empathy. To open the season under the banner NO KINGS, the entire theater and urban arts ensemble unite to explore the human condition across various social and political systems through music and dance.
