‘DRAG IS A PROTEST. DRAG IS A RAISED FIST INSIDE A SEQUINED GLOVE. DRAG IS A LOT OF THINGS, BABY, BUT DRAG IS NOT FOR SISSIES.’
Casey gives it his all every night, performing as an Elvis impersonator for a few stranded travellers at a run-down bar in Panama City. He is convinced that success is within reach and that his brand spanking new jumpsuit will play its part in this. Now he really needs to get his financial act together, as his girlfriend Jo reveals to him that she’s expecting a child, the rent is overdue again and they’re going to be evicted.
To make matters even worse, bar operator Eddie fires him the very next evening because he’s bringing in his cousin, who performs a drag show. The fabulous Miss Tracy Mills makes a grand entrance, creating a sensation in the bar and throwing Casey’s life into a tumult. When Miss Tracy’s partner, drag queen Miss Anorexia Nervosa – Rexy, for short – drops out, Casey makes a decision in that moment that will change his life. He swaps the Elvis quiff and pelvic thrust for high heels and make-up, suddenly revealing hidden talents and a shining new career opportunity on the horizon.
The Legend of Georgia McBride is a heart-warming musical comedy about drag, tolerance and life’s dreams: fierce as hell and bloody hilarious! Since no later than RuPaul’s Drag Race, drag has been generally seen not only as an art form but also a practice of self-assertion. With more and more public drag shows being banned in the US and the Freedom Party of Austria seeking to emulate this, Miss Tracy and Casey show that the queens stand up for humanity and respect and oppose all forms of discrimination. With a generous sprinkling of glitter on the side, of course!

Ralph Wilms, WAZ
