Introductory sessions and follow-up discussions – Before the start of the show, we invite you to spend 30 minutes at our brief introductory sessions for selected productions. Audio introductions for these are also made available on the respective production page from the date of the premiere. Interactive introductory sessions with Open Haus staff are provided for some shows. Would you like to chat with other members of the audience and some people involved in the production after a show? Come talk to us and you may also meet invited experts in our follow-up discussions in the bar.

OPEN HAUS

We warmly invite you to our theatre extras related to our performance season and beyond – together with numerous cooperation partners from our city.

A

Accessible theatre Sensory tours give people who are completely blind, visually impaired and partially sighted the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the stage design, costumes and props prior to a show. They can hear about the special features of the staging and be introduced to the voices and roles of the ensemble. In cooperation with the Oberhausen association for the blind and visually impaired.

Bar Quiz – We love a good quiz, which is why we’ve been holding one every month for the past two performance seasons! Get a team together with your friends or simply drop by and join in with other friendly folks. Our quiz masters will test your knowledge in between beers and spritzers. The smartest teams can hope to come away with vouchers from Oberhausen retailers and cafés!

Bratapfel – Anna Polke’s popular Advent reading with numerous artistic collaborators will again take place in December 2024.

Breaking the Fast – We want to share the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan with you and invite you to two special events at our theatre marking the breaking of the fast at the end of Ramadan, both in March 2025. One of the events is specifically designed for families, while the other is an evening event with an artistic supporting programme and a guest lecture. With both events, we want to create a space where people can meet and get talking to one other. Naturally, everyone is welcome, regardless of faith.

D

Día de los Muertos — At Theater Oberhausen, we’ve developed the tradition of celebrating Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, together with the city, with a different focal theme each year. Día de los Muertos is a powerful commemoration and a life-affirming approach to grief. We want to continue this tradition in Open Haus and will therefore join with Andrea Barba and artists invited by her in celebrating this commemoration of the dead, who are trusting those of us in the living world to keep their stories alive. Día de los Muertos took place in the bar on 3 November 2024.

G

Guest performances – We love making our venues available to other artists and being able to offer the public exciting guest performances.

  • Bier- und Leseabend (Evening of Beer and Readings) by and with Matthias Reuter: you’ll have several opportunities throughout the performance season to join Matthias Reuter and his guests for small-scale theatre, cabaret and acoustic covers.
  • Hömma Jazzfestival: We’re sticking to the tradition of making our big stage available to the Oberhausen Jazz Festival in the autumn. You can look forward to a terrific jazz concert again on 20 November 2024.
  • Cooperation with Literaturhaus Oberhausen & Lit.RUHR
Again in 2024, Theater Oberhausen will cooperate with Literaturhaus Oberhausen to host reading events. We are again a Lit.Ruhr cooperation partner for 2024 and look forward to welcoming authors to give readings in our venues.

H

Halay Night 2.0 – Again in this performance season, director, videographer and performer Caner Akdeniz warmly invites all those interested from Oberhausen and the Ruhr region to meet through music, join in the dancing and create an unforgettable experience together during Halay Night 2.0 at Theater Oberhausen.

Marienviertel Open Forum – When people talk about the Marienviertel district, many only think of the lack of bins, shuttered pubs and deserted squares. Walk through Marienviertel, however, and you’ll find courtyard festivals, flea markets and games of boule. To support these neighbourly efforts, Theater Oberhausen and the City of Oberhausen’s Urban Development department launched the Offene Forum Marienviertel in October 2023. Within no time at all, a group of neighbours had banded together to organise a planting programme and a potluck. They’re now planning lots more! We’re excited to see what neighbourly activities will take place during the new performance season. The open forum meets once a month on a Tuesday and would be delighted to welcome new people.

Miss Tracy’s Karaoke Bar – Miss Tracy is opening a karaoke bar from January 2025! After warming up in The Legend of Georgia McBride, our ultra-glamorous drag queen will swap the big stage for the bar and guide you through an evening of hits – together with our legendary Georgia McBride. But you’re the main attraction! Whether ABBA, Beyoncé, Madonna or the Red Hot Chili Peppers — perform your favourite song, cheered on by the public … or simply enjoy watching the show with a cool drink.
FRIDAY, 28/02/2025, 10 PM, BAR, FREE ADMISSION

Parties at the theatre – Premiere parties – In the theatre, there’s nothing more exciting than a premiere – and no better reason to celebrate! Our premiere parties in the bar and Studio foyer are always open to the public – and you’re very welcome to attend!
New Year’s Eve at the theatre – The Legend of Georgia McBride will open the festivities for the last evening of the year. Unfortunately, we will have no New Year’s Eve party following this in the theatre this year.

T

Theatre tours – See Theater Oberhausen through new eyes with a backstage tour! Find out everything about the production process at the theatre. Take a look at the stage and visit our staff in our departments and trades. What does a wardrobe supervisor do? What happens in the workshops? Who designs the sets? And who’s in charge of ensuring the lighting is perfect? To request a group tour, please email weingarte@theater-oberhausen.de.
