Der griechische Theaterautor und Regisseur Elias Adam schreibt in einem berührend-poetischen Text mit viel Selbstironie über sein Verhältnis zu seiner Mutter und über all die Träume, die sie für die Männer in ihrem Leben hat sterben lassen. Einst schwärmte sie von einer Karriere als Sängerin – doch als Frau zu dieser Zeit hatte sie ganz bestimmte Rollen zu erfüllen: Tochter, Ehefrau, Hausfrau, Mutter. Doch auch das wird ihr in der Ehe nicht gedankt – der Alkoholiker ignoriert sie schnell, findet sie alt und hässlich und schreit ihr das auch gerne ins Gesicht. Dass sein Sohn schwul ist, hätte er nie akzeptiert.
Mit viel Feingefühl spürt Elias Adam dem Leben seiner Mutter nach, ringt nach Worten und immer wieder mit dem emotionalen Erbe, das seine Eltern ihm hinterlassen haben. Dabei befragt er letztlich auch seine eigene Identität als junger homosexueller Theatermacher des digitalen Zeitalters.
Ensemblemitglied Jens Schnarre hat Only God can cancel me mit einem performten Ausschnitt auf Englisch im Rahmen des NEW STAGES SOUTH EAST FESTIVALS bereits dem Oberhausener Publikum vorgestellt. Nun folgt beim EAST REVISITED FESTIVAL die Uraufführung – ebenfalls mit Jens Schnarre als Spieler und in der Regie von Autor Elias Adam selbst. Der intime Monolog wird dabei an einem besonderen Ort im Theater zu sehen sein: Unter der Bühne!

Greek playwright and director Elias Adam writes about his relationship with his mother and all the dreams she let die for the men in her life in a touching and poetic text full of self-irony. She once longed for a career as a singer – but as a woman at the time, she had very specific roles to fulfill: daughter, spouse, housewife, mother. But even this is not appreciated in her marriage – the alcoholic is quick to ignore her, finds her old and ugly and has no hesitations whatsoever to shout this in her face. He would never have accepted the fact that his son is gay.
With great sensitivity, Elias Adam traces his mother’s life, struggles for words and again and again with the emotional legacy his parents left him. Ultimately, he also questions his own identity as a young homosexual theater maker in the digital age.
Actor Jens Schnarre has already presented Only God can cancel me to the Oberhausen audience with a performed excerpt in English as part of the NEW STAGES SOUTH EAST FESTIVAL. Now the world premiere will follow at the EAST REVISITED FESTIVAL – again with Jens Schnarre as the actor and directed by the author Elias Adam himself. The intimate monologue will be performed in a special place in the theater: Under the stage!
